Public Information Officer

General Information

The Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for the release of information to the public and media through all available media platforms.

The PIO serves as the main point of contact for the media and handles daily inquiries from the news media, initiates news releases on developing events, and provides live and taped interviews for news reporters.

The PIO responds to major events in order to relieve incident commanders of the responsibility of dealing with the media so they can focus on the situation before them.

The PIO also manages department social media channels for the public.

The Public Information Officer operates under the Compliance Bureau.

PIO PHONE LINE

Public Information Officer (PIO) requests are received and managed through a dedicated PIO phone line. Media representatives and community partners should direct all inquiries to:

PIO Media Request Line: 661-391-7599

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (excluding holidays)

Please note, the dedicated media request phone line generates an email containing your voicemail recording to all personnel available to respond during business hours.

For any other inquiries that are not media information requests, contact directly using sheriffpio@kernsheriff.org or 1-661-391-7566 and the PIO will respond as time permits.
