In 2023 the Sheriff’s Office created and staffed a Compliance Bureau, which institutionalizes KCSO’s commitment to quality service and self-improvement. The Compliance Bureau is comprised of sworn peace officers and civilian staff members who work together to improve, innovate, and identify best practices for all Kern County Sheriff's Office operations. The Compliance Bureau is responsible for maintaining the Transparency Page on the KCSO website. The Compliance Bureau also serves as a liaison to the Kern County Sheriff's Community Advisory Council (CAC) in furtherance of the Kern County Sheriff's Office mission statement to work in partnership with our community to provide effective public safety services. Compliance Bureau personnel analyze a variety of data to inform practices and produce annual reports to keep the public informed, which are posted in the Transparency Page.

This bureau encompasses the Compliance and Standards Division, Professional Standards Section, and the Correctional Standards Section to perform recurring audits of data and workflows to ensure accountability amongst management and line staff. In addition, the Professional Standards Section performs criminal investigations involving allegations made against KCSO employees, as well as audits of various operational practices. Under the Professional Standards Section, KCSO established a dedicated BWC Unit that reviews thousands of BWC videos annually to ensure quality service, with a focus on interactions between deputies and the public. If an auditor identifies any issues, they are flagged for supervisory review and further action. Supervisors also evaluate their deputies through weekly BWC audits. A lieutenant reviews these audits, and the findings are submitted to the respective commanders to ensure there are no performance issues.

In 2025, the Community Relations Unit and Public Information Officer were folded into the Compliance Bureau. In addition, the Training Section was also absorbed and made into a Division, adding a Commander Position, and moved under the Compliance Bureau for consistency and accountability. The Training Division oversee the delivery of various structured training programs including Academies, In-Service Training, and the Field Training Program.

The Training Commander serves on the CIT Steering Committee, which is co-chaired by a member of Kern County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services (KCBHRS). The CIT Steering Committee assists with researching ways to divert individuals with behavioral health and substance abuse issues away from the criminal justice system.
